Enterprise Integration & Legacy Data Recovery
Reverse engineering and a purpose-built .NET extraction process preserved thousands of documents for migration into a modern knowledge portal.
Situation
A regional bank was moving to a modern knowledge-management portal while valuable documents remained embedded in a legacy repository.
Challenge
Understand an aging database, recover stored document binaries reliably, and support migration without losing organizational knowledge.
Michael’s role
Worked directly with client IT and led portal architecture, taxonomy, migration design, custom development, configuration, and production support.
Approach
- Reverse-engineered the legacy database and document-storage model.
- Built a .NET console utility to extract document binaries to a managed file share.
- Connected the recovery work to the broader portal migration and information architecture.
- Supported the solution through configuration, migration, and production use.
Outcome
Preserved and migrated thousands of legacy documents that otherwise risked being stranded in the prior platform.
