Back9Live — Product Architecture & Prototype Development
An early-stage live golf scoring and event-operations product shaped from initial concept into a working prototype and structured foundation for continued development.
Situation
Back9Live began as an effort to create a focused digital experience for live golf-event scoring, leaderboards, and event administration.
The product is being developed through Back Nine Technologies LLC and is currently in active, early-stage prototyping.
Challenge
Define a credible first version that could support the connected workflows behind a golf event—participants, teams, rounds, scoring, leaderboard updates, administrative actions, and public access—without overbuilding the initial product.
The technical foundation also needed to support secure access, reliable scoring logic, future deployment, and continued product evolution.
Michael’s role
As Founder of Back Nine Technologies LLC, Michael leads product definition and technical direction for Back9Live.
His responsibilities include defining MVP scope, documenting requirements, shaping user workflows, making architecture and data-model decisions, designing API behavior, establishing security and testing expectations, and translating product decisions into structured implementation work.
Approach
- Translated golf-event concepts and user workflows into structured requirements, decision records, and implementation plans.
- Defined a React front end, .NET API, and PostgreSQL data model.
- Designed scoring workflows, leaderboard logic, administrative operations, and public event experiences.
- Planned link- and QR-based event access, notification concepts, security boundaries, testing expectations, and deployment needs.
- Used AI-assisted workflows for requirements clarification, architecture analysis, development support, testing, code review, documentation, and implementation preparation.
- Applied human review, technical judgment, and iterative validation throughout product development.
Outcome
The result is a working early-alpha prototype that demonstrates core live-scoring, leaderboard, and administrative workflows.
Back9Live now provides a concrete foundation for continued product development while demonstrating Michael’s ability to move from product concept through requirements, architecture, implementation planning, and a functioning prototype.
